Wow what a day, today will be 65 degrees and sunny the perfect day for Mothers Day 2011. Yesterday I went out to the Woodland Garden and I was happy to see that not one farm field was idle. Every field had at least one if not more machines in them. The tractors were moving fast that was for sure . The Farmers in our area are several weeks behind in getting the crops planted due to all the rain we have been experiencing. There are a couple of good days ahead so I am hoping they can get a lot done.
Speaking of crops the early spinach and leaf lettuce are producing and the broccoli is growing to beat the band. I will be getting ready for some of the warm season crops this week and hopefully weather permitting will have them all in the ground by next weekend.
It is sometimes hard to get the garden in when we experience wet springs. There is not much you can do about the weather but you can do something to change your growing conditions. A good example is raised bed gardening. Raised beds will warm up quicker than traditional garden beds. An important consideration is that a raised bed will dry out quicker as well so you can get in and plant while a traditional bed would still be too soggy.
This will be a good week there will be showers off and on but the temperatures are getting warmer so get out and get those gardens planted
