Just because you live in the inner city or an urban environment it does not mean that there is no wildlife around you. Here at the urban garden we have a lot of wildlife. While most of the wildlife is not as diverse as in suburban or country areas there is wildlife none the less.
It amazes me at how adaptable some animals are. At one of our outlying facilities we have a large advertising billboard that is only half a block from the Dan Ryan Expressway. This is a very busy busy road yet there is a flock of dozens of wild parrots that have made this their home for many years now. Sometimes when you stand by the sign the noise is deafening especially if there are babies in the nests. This week while picking up papers in the Main Entrance traffic circle bed I came across another group of animals in there nest.
Here in the middle of the heavily used main drive this group is now calling it home. I guess I am not surprised as over the years I have seen animals build their homes in the oddest places.
The Newest Residents At The Urban Garden
There all nestled together were 9 baby rabbits only a few days old. As I looked at them I was reminded that Mother Nature has a way of adapting to everything we do to her.
