Uncontrollable circumstances that is what I am experiencing right now at the urban garden. There is a lot of grounds to cover and there is just myself and one crew member. We do contract out some of the work like the mowing but there is still a lot of work involved with daily upkeep for just two grounds keepers.
Well with the upcoming holidays the trees all need to be lit and the holiday decorations put up and while we stretch sometimes to get it done it manages to get done. Well last Thursday my crew members Father passed away so he has taken a leave and will not be back till Dec.28th which really makes it difficult to get everything done.
Normally it would not be so critical but with the start of the snow season at hand it is always much better to have experienced people running the equipment. We will pull some of the engineers from the building to assist as needed but it is always better to have the experience. I will try and get some help with the daily work but everyone is always shorthanded and have just enough people to cover their areas. Some how it will all get done.
The main focus will to be to get the lighting and decorations up but first priority everyday is to police the grounds and that can take up almost half the shift if there is only one person doing it. I will just need to become more efficient and prioritize.
See it is not always about working out in the garden but it is always part of the job.
