Spring Is Starting To Swing

Well a drop or two of warm weather and the phone stats to ring! The warm weather has gotten a lot of people out this week and those that have ponds seem to have been thinking Hey!!!!call this guy to see about a Spring Pond Cleaning.  I did open my landscape renovation business up to accept some new customers last summer. Actually I have been very shocked at the number of calls I have received. This is not my full time business but something which I do on the side. I priced my services a bit on the high side because after all this is my free time I am giving up and I really think that it is worth it to those that I have done work for because I still retain customers year in and year out. My thought is there are a lot of landscape installation renovation firms out there and some are extremely good at what they do but a lot of them not so much. I do have one advantage over all of them in that I do not have to meet certain sales goals nor do I have high overhead.

Pricing my services is based on the ability to take my time on a project and get things the way I want them.  You will rarely if ever find me doing a hurry up rush job! I do enjoy the extra money but the satisfaction I get from a well done job and the clients happiness with the work is what matters most. It is a very enviable position to be in .

Most times at the urban garden I do not have they feeling that the projects reach their full potential both because of time constraints, but more often than not because of budgetary considerations. The work we do there is good and in a commercial aspect it is well maintained but at the same time the work is constrained . I none the less put a sense of self pride into all our work. It needs to meet my standards . If I can approve of it and like it then administration and our visitors and staff will as well.

I leave you with this. Quite a few years back I worked with a fellow and we were both going for the position of Head Grounds Keeper. This fellow had been there like 20 years before I even started and had interviewed several times in the past  when the position was open and never seemed to get moved up. He would lament to me all the time about why he did not get the position he deserved . He did not understand why he was always by-passed when he knew the job inside and out. Don’t get me wrong he was the nicest guy in the world and he did know a lot about grounds keeping. I could have answered his question after only working with him after two weeks but I never did. Every time we would complete a task if it was not quite right of could have used a bit more he would say the same thing to me. I will never forget this and it has always stuck with me. ” Well thats good enough if they want a professional looking job, then they should hire one “. I always thought the same thing right after he would say it . We are suppose to be the professionals!

Have A Great Week!
