Spring arrives this Friday at the Urban Garden! It really has been a long and cold winter this year and the promise of spring is a most welcome thought. The daffodils and crocus are starting to poke their heads up and catch the rays of early spring sunshine as they await the moment when they will be spreading their beauty across the land heralding a new gardening year about to begin.
Those who were busy last fall are now awaiting the fruits of their labor as all those tulips and spring flowering bulbs that were planted on a brisk day last Autumn are now about to bring the joy that was only anticipated and spread a blaze of color to start the new gardening year.
Here at the urban garden we are busy we are cleaning the beds and fertilizing as well as putting down pre-emergent herbicides. The first application of fertilizer will be going down next week on the lawns as well as broad leaf weed control. There is much to do but it is a welcome busy as we shed our heavy coats and winter gear and prepare for a warmer and more friendly weather pattern.
For those who garden this is the beginning of their favorite time of the year. I hope the weather is starting to break for you and that you too can get out in your gardens and enjoy the early awakening of the upcoming growing season.
