Well certainly this past weekend the weather was less than perfect here in Chicago. There was 8.5 inches of rain over the weekend and flooding from overflowing creeks and rivers continues. Certainly nothing as severe as what the people of Texas experienced non the less it is unpleasant for those affected.
If you get through these things without a loss of life than you are blessed. Houses, cars, personal property, can all be replaced a person can’t be.
With the weather changing it is time to think a head to winter and to getting your self ready for fall gardening chores. Here at the urban garden we are busy cleaning beds and mulching . The tender perennials that are spent are being cut back and we are dividing others. The leaves on some of the trees are starting to change colors and soon the others will follow suit. We will be very busy over the next month and a half. The fall color pot plantings of flowering kale, mums, and pansies will be in today or tomorrow and so we will need to get them planted and by end of month the spring flowering bulbs will arrive . Also we will be getting ready for a fertilization of the lawns next month to get them ready for winter using a winterizer fertilizer.
So start planning because before you know it it will be fall and you will have a mountain of gardening chores if you do not start early.

With the amount of rain that we received recently, will it help to save the fall color on the trees, or they just going to drop their leaves?
