Spending time alfresco is lovely, but not everyone is lucky enough to have nice neighbors. Which means that privacy may be at a premium in their garden. But what can be done about this? Read on to find out.
One the most traditional and most popular way of dealing with this issue is to use wooden fence post and panels. They come in various different sizes and can be stained or painted different colors with various different products, to fit in with your garden decor or theme.
They are really cheap too, which makes them a good buy if you are looking to not blow the budget, or if you have a particularly large area to cover.
However, they are some downsides to using this type of fencing. The first is that they can rot and age quickly, even if you do treat them with stain or varnish. As well as being susceptible to being blown down in high winds. Which means that although you may have an initial small outlay, you may end up replacing them more often than you would like.
Another option to deal with this issue is to use composite slat fencing. This is fencing that looks like wood but is actually made from aluminum. Which means it’s a lot sturdier and will not weather anywhere near as quickly as the traditional wooden kind.
You can choose to use all composite fencing, or insert panels into fences built of other materials like concrete to give you airflow to your plants without compromising your privacy. This means that they work particularly well in small city gardens that are close together.
While this type of fencing may be a little more expensive, it also has the clean, modern look. So it’s perfect for the front as well as back gardens, and even commercial establishments like restaurants.
However, if you are looking for a bit more of a green solution to this privacy issue, you may choose to use plants to delineate boundaries and provide solitude.
There are several ways of doing this. First of all, you can use dense shrubs and trees to provide a hedge barrier between your own and someone else’s property. Although to provide maximum privacy, said bushes will need to be very high. They will also need to be pruned and kept in shape which can be a mammoth job.
Or you could opt for the trellis option. This is when you install criss-cross wooden panels instead of normal fence panels. Then you grow plants up the trellis like creeper or vines. Which will eventually cover the area and provide privacy.
This s a particularly popular way of solving the privacy issue because it keeps the garden looking as green and attractive as possible. However, it’s not the option for you if you need a quick solution. As you will have to wait for the plants to mature before you get the amount of coverage that you are searching for.
