Ready To Plant The Vegetable Garden
I am already to plant the vegetable garden but the weather it is sunny snowy sleeting hale rainy windy and then sunny all in one day. Here we are waiting patiently but it s the weather.
You know we had some really nice weather a couple of weeks ago but I resisted temptation. You can always gamble but the house always wins so those stakes are too high for me.
Eighteen years ago I had planted my garden on Mothers Day generally a good bet here. Friends of mine who own a farm also thought that was a good idea.
Yeah not so much two days latter we had a hard frost and my garden was wiped out and I had to start from scratch. What a bummer! All those wilted plants just turning black was not a sight that I wanted to look at.
Speaking of bummers my friends the farmers lost 3000 bell pepper plants that day they were scrambling to find pepper plants right at the height of the start of the gardening season. It was a very expensive loss because the were forced to go to wholesalers to replace what they had started in the greenhouses back in February not to mention the labor costs.
The lesson I learned eighteen years ago was not lost on me no matter how bad I want to plant the vegetable garden I now wait a bit longer. If you are itching to get going I empathize as most gardeners suffer from the same afflictions so you are not alone.
The good thing is that I have some gardening to do which is to grow out my veggies a little longer before i take them out to harden them off. It is something but not the same as walking out in the garden to tend to my plants.
I guess I should not complain because I know that there are many of you who are still fighting snow storms out there. The good news is that in a couple of more weeks we will all be able to plant the vegetable garden.
