January 1,2012 a new year and a new chance to grow a batch of garden memories. I come from a time when a very popular saying was Today is the first day of the rest of your life. As a teenager this is one of the posters that adorned the walls of my bedroom. I think that this is a very deep and motivational statement. I also believe many of us get caught up in the day to day and really do not spend enough time examining who we are and what we want.
When you are in your garden the day to day seems not to be such a distraction and you have more time to think about yourself. I think the therapy of spending time in a quiet peaceful place totally absorbed by your garden can transform you and help you overcome the terrible weight that the day to day place upon you and stresses your life. A garden is your creation and it is your own personal place.
We are told that you can do what ever we set our minds then we get older and start living in the day to day and our minds are beset by stress and worries and just plain living and it quickly fills our minds and pushes our limits till our dreams are set aside for other more pressing issues.
They say don’t let them steal your dreams and what is really happening is that you are letting them take your dreams away. You may not be able to abandon all else and chase your dreams but you can reorganize your life and fit time in to work on your dreams. Some of my greatest moments of inspiration have come while spending time in my garden. Working in the garden has renewed and refreshed my soul so many times and the memories of these seem to carry me through and give me the encouragement I need when things are rough in the day to day.
The mind is very powerful and if you nurture it like you do a garden you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to reaffirm your dreams and commit to spend time each day working to bring your dreams to a reality. A good program is to make it a point to visit your garden and spend 15 minutes just enjoying what you have accomplished and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Take pride in what you have created , make plans to improve upon it and take note of changes you want to see. Before you know it you will find motivation and excitement to bring the same to your dreams and to achieve that which you may have given up on.
A garden is a friend you can always visit!
