Memorial Day 2016 here at Glenns Garden finds me busier than ever.I have been busy doing some freelancing for the last 6 weeks doing commercial tree and shrub maintenance as well as commercial weed control. Having been away from it for a few years I was a bit surprised at the amount of damage and cost nature can inflict on it’s self.
So the garden has had a bit of a late start this year but now the vegetables will all be in today and attention can be turned towards tuning up the flower beds. Memorial Day weekends always brings a huge crowd at the garden centers and it is amazing at the amount of work I see heading home with people.
Sometimes I look at what they are loading and try to figure out what kind of a project they are working on. I know what you are thinking too much time on his hands my wife says it all the time she says worry about your own projects that aren’t getting done while you are busy day dreaming.
I have found through the years that part of gardening is about day dreaming visualizing and thinking of all the possibilities that are available when you put your mind to it. In the strictest sense of the word gardening could be considered science. We know that there are certain rules that govern the act of growing plants but there are so many variables that are uncontrollable that you can not always have consistent results.
No doubt gardening is challenging but that is part of it’s appeal to me. Trying to solve mysteries or problems keeps it exciting and ever changing. If all you had to do was to drop a seed in the ground and water it it would get much to boring to me. I love to figure out if a plant is not doing well what the cause or factor that keeps it from responding properly.
While many of us are at home today working on projects or having cookouts and family get together’s please try and take a few moments to reflect on all of the millions of men and woman that found it in their hearts to give up their lives to make it possible for us to live and enjoy our freedom.
Be thankful and grateful to those Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Husband, Wives, And Children who have suffered the losses of these brave souls. This is the greatest country on earth to live in and it is because of these our fallen heroes that helped to keep it safe for all the rest.
