July In The Urban Garden

Well July has started out like July should be at the urban garden. The weather has been hot and muggy. Last year everyone was complaining that the weather was so cool and it really did not feel like summer. I am pretty sure not will not hear that comment this year. It is often difficult to work when the humidity is high because the heat combined with the humidity will really effect you quicker then heat alone. Be sure to take it easy and not over exert yourself in this weather and keep well hydrated.

We have been busy working on the shrub trimming and cleaning up the weeds as they come along trying to stay ahead of the game. Next week we will be starting on dividing the daylilies. We have hundreds of daylilies they were planted 4 years ago and are getting very crowded. Dividing a few daylilies in the garden is not such a hard task but when you have hundreds now you are talking a project. The plan is to dig them up split the clump and clean out the spent bloom stems and then replant they smaller clump. This of course will make then beds look better next year. The question is is what do we do with the other plants that will be left over. This is a good question. We will pot these up and grow them out till next year when will use them in some of the new beds and to fill in damaged areas.

I will take some photos and add them next week.
