When we think about the outside of our homes we tend to focus on the front and back gardens, but actually if you have a driveway this is a large feature and if you get it wrong it could really knock the kerb appeal of your home. The problem most people have is that when they’re home and their car is on the drive it hides a multitude of sins, but when you drive off the poor condition underneath is visible for all to see. Here are some of the ways you can tidy and upgrade this area of the home!
Give it a Clean
Driveways are susceptible to things like oil spills and caked mud from your car tyres. One way to instantly freshen it up is by giving it a clean. Using a pressure washer, jet hose away dirt and spills to bring it back up to scratch. It’s actually a very satisfying job to do, and if you already own a jet washer it is a free and simple way to clean up your driveway.
Make Any Repairs
If you’re dealing with cracked slabs or uneven paving, replacing that section will make the entire driveway look so much better. If you’re not much of a DIYer, speak to a professional company. You don’t need to fork out for a whole new drive for a couple of areas of damage, just have them repaired instead.
Pull Out Weeds
If your weed barrier under your drive has failed or you’ve just fallen victim to some stubborn weeds taking root, you will notice unwanted greenery between your driveway slabs. If the problem is particularly bad, put down a weed killer and then once the weeds have died pull them up. This ensures the root is dead and it wont come back. Otherwise you could just pull them up as they are, it’s a pain but weeding is good exercise so think of it that way!
Add Some Lighting
One way to make any outdoor area look more high spec is by adding lighting. Whether it’s in a pool, pond, along decking or mounted onto the house- it’s gives a fantastic luxurious effect as well as being practical. The same is true when it comes to the driveway, try adding in-ground landscape light fittings along either side. This will help you to guide your car in at night and will look great too.
Spruce It Up With Colour
Finally, the driveway doesn’t need to look boring. If you have given up your front garden to have a driveway installed, you can still make it look pretty and add lots of flowers and shrubs. How about digging flower beds along either side and at the front of the house, and filling them with bulbs that flower at different times of the year. This way you get a spectacular show of colour with very little work needed- just deadhead anything that’s finished flowering and pull out any weeds
