What do you want for this garden . You need to have a clear idea of what you want the finished garden to be like. Your vision will be the spark that starts the fire and your plan will be the wind that will fan the flames. Once you have gotten a good grasp of what this garden will be and how it will benefit the community you will be able to talk to others and recruit some volunteers to help you to implement the plan in place. A good place to start would be at city hall find out who your alder person is or district representative local trustee, whoever represents your neighborhood. This maybe your best contact of all. Generally if you can get your local government representative behind you they will be a huge help in getting funding, donations , and resources of every type.
Don’t stop at the city hall get your church involved they are an important member of the community and have the interest of the community at heart. They are also a huge source of resources through their contacts. There is also a lot of church members that would love to get a chance to be involved in a project like this.
Once the ball gets rolling you will be amazed at how something like this can come together. The most important thing is for you to be prepared and know what you want. Once you are it may take a little while but hammer away at it a little at a time and your dream of a community garden will be a reality. The only difference between a person who fails and a person who succeeds is that one did not give up!
