Four days before Christmas here in Chicago. The weather has been very mild and nice. The construction season is still going strong which is really amazing being as most landscape relate work grinds to a halt around Thanksgiving.Driving around the last few days I have noticed large scale landscape planting going in. New irrigation systems being installed and also asphalt being laid which usually would not happen as most asphalt plants up here are closed by

Today is one of the days I look forward to the most each year. The winter of 2006/2007 will start on the 21st of December, 2006, at 6:22 PM CST. Starting tomorrow the sun will start to stay up a little bit longer each day. Winter will end (and Spring Starts) on the 20th of March, 2007, at 6:07 PM CST .
Today is the day I start Counting down till Spring. I know it seems silly to be thinking about Spring in the middle of the holiday season but I think it is the best time of the year. Most important it will mean and end to snow watch and the beginning of those magical weekend getaways to the Woodland Garden.
Also at this time of year thoughts turn to family and friends and to time spent with them and memories of past holidays. I hope that your holiday season will be merry and bright and that you will be able to share it with some of your family and friends. A lot of people will have the good fortune to be off from work next week and a lot more will be extra busy at work because of the extra rush brought on by the holiday season.
Which ever category you fall into even in between the one thing that you can do is to get out the old garden journal and seed catalogs and start and plan for the upcoming gardening season.
Nothing will lift your spirits more than an hour or so thinking about the garden and the new plants you want to try or a project you have been wanting to start. An hour away from the hustle and bustle will really ease your mind and give a lift to your spirit.
Happy Holidays to Everyone (THINK SPRING! )
