Here in the Chicago we have experienced a great fall so far. The weather has been mild and dry lending itself to great days out in the garden. Those that have planted fall vegetables have been able to see a lot of growth due to the mild temperatures. For the smart gardener just about all there fall chores are done.
At the urban garden we have all the spring flowering bulbs planted except the last 300 that will be going in tomorrow. Which is way ahead of schedule for us. These year we planted a little over 4500 spring flowering bulbs which should put on a great display in spring. Our next project starting this week will be lighting the trees and shrubs for the holidays coming up. This is a big project involving lots of wiring and 400 strings of light. It usually is interrupted by rainy weather and so takes a while. This year I am hoping to complete it by the first week of November. That would be a great thing.
The irrigation systems are scheduled for blowout and winterization on Monday as well so we will have all the major work out of the way and turn attention to getting the snow equipment ready. It is really a realeif to have had good weather and the ability to get all the fall work started and finished on time. Not something that always happens at the urban garden.
The only bad thing about the nice weather is a lot of gardeners are putting off the chores they need to get done because a false sense of plenty of time. I hope you are not one of them. The Bad weather is coming maybe not this week but it will be here soon enough. Seem like you would like to get your fall work done in short sleeves instead of a parka. FAir Warning
Have A Great Week and Get On Those Garden Chores!
