Dogs Skunks And Saturday Morning

I was looking forward to sleeping in this morning but the dog had different ideas and decided it was time to go out at 3:45 AM. Well I got up and got dressed to take her out and she was all jumping around and stuff. Finally got the leash on her and we were ready to go.

Now this is a little Cairn Terrier that fits perfectly the profile of Cairn. She behaves when she wants,which is not very often. She wants to run and go after everything. And she is extremely curious. Oh and she has a mind of her own. Did I mention she wants to go after everything.

Well As always I open the door slowly to be sure that there are no unwanted critters roaming around like possums or skunks but for some reason I did not have the leash pulled up tight and out she bolts. Well before I could pull her back the skunk coming around the corner saw her and I jumped back behind the sliding glass door just in time. You would think a spray from the skunk would send her yelping but no she had to growl and bark at the skunk as it waddled off. At this point I could see that it was time to hook the leash on the inside of the door and close it completely so she could not get back in.

I was already in a good mood because it was 4:00 on Saturday morning so now I had to find my keys and wallet and head out the door with not even a sip of coffee in me. Thank goodness that there is a 24 hour Walgreens Drug Store just 3 miles from the house so here I go off to buy a couple of bottles of vinegar disposable douche. It is the best cure I have found for skunk oil. An animal control officer told me about it maybe 20 years ago. I think it works well because the acid in the vinegar breaks down the oil yet it is mild enough not to irritate the dogs skin. The dog was not making me happy as I was driving back because I still did not have any coffee.

When I got back I got the bottles of douche opened and set them on the rim of the bathtub. Then I got the biggest old towel I could find to wrap the dog in and went out to get Snookie. Well this was a great amusement to her as she get dodging and jumping to avoid me and the towel . I was not amused still had not had any coffee. Finally got a hold of Snookie and she was summarily placed in the bathtub.

Labrador Retrievers they like water, ducks they like water, Snookie not so much. Well i finally got her completely saturated with the douche and of course she had to immediately shake herself off so I could enjoy some of the douche as well. It is a feat trying to wash her without getting any in her eyes. Finally though she was clean and I got her all dried off and could head to the kitchen to get some coffee made.

So now I will need to do a load of laundry to get the towels and my clothes clean and put a couple of cap fulls of vinegar in the water to cut the oils. All this before 6 AM . Happy Saturday everyone!
