Many times trees are hit and damaged in parking lots and the damage goes unnoticed. Latter the tree dies and you find that there was damage done that had not been seen until the tree started to die.
Yesterday as I was driving down the street I looked over at one of the parking lots and noticed a large delivery truck backed into a space and it looked entirely to close to one of the trees so I swung into the parking lot to have a look.
Sure enough as I drove up I saw what I was afraid of was true on the ground was a very large chunk of tree bark.

This large chunk of park came off when hit by the truck
After examining the tree I found damage on the north side of the tree where the bark had come off.

A Large section of the bark was peeled off and missing
Also at the base of the tree there was a large crack in the trunk where it came up out of the ground. I was not real happy as I am sure that this tree will die and if not it is permanently disfigured. A tree damage injury is not always so obvious .I looked at the truck to see if it was the culprit and sure enough clear evidence.

The truck had done the damage and you can clearly see a piece of the tree still attached to the truck.
I contacted the Public Safety office and they sent and officer to make a report and take pictures. The driver of the truck was located and their insurance information was obtained so that we can put in a claim and have the tree replaced. That was a good thing as the cost to replace that size tree including removal will be around $800.00. Even though there are over 450 trees in the parking lot each and every one of them is important to me and I am glad that this one will get replaced at no cost to the hospital.
