Economic times are hard across the country and the world for that matter. The evidence of that was felt here at the urban garden yesterday. I received a call at home from the hospitals Public Safety Office to tell me the Chicago Police Department had found our dump truck and was getting ready to tow it.I was thinking to myself how could that be I had parked it in the hospital parking lot next to the other hospital vehicles on Friday Afternoon. One of the public safety officers went and met the police sure enough it was our truck. The steering column was torn up and the ignition was punched. Apparently it had been stolen out of the lot earlier in the day and when found was still running. The thieves new what they wanted because when they recovered the truck the 8′ Western Uni-Mount Snow plow had been removed.
This is the 2nd incidence this year of snow removal equipment being stolen from the urban garden. In December our snow plowing contractor had a Case Skid Loader with Snow Pusher stolen out of our storage yard in broad day light . It is truly sad that people have to resort to this type of behavior to get by in bad economic times. I am sure that it will get worse before it gets better. My plan is to lock the other trucks up in the underground loading docks at night. I can not afford to be with out snow removal equipment.

Glenn, I’m really sorry to hear about the tough times you’re going through and I truly sympathise. But I must add that your headline gave me a jolt for all of one minute.
