The pond will be completely melted out by this afternoon which is making the birds extremely happy and it won’t be too long before I turn the waterfall back on.
The arrival of Spring is always the best time of the year for me it is like the end of a long drought that usually begins around Thanksgiving and has got me all itching to get out into the garden again by the time New Years rolls around.
The best of course for me is yet to come as slowly the spring flowering bulbs, and perennials start to pop up through the soil and grace the gardens with all their beauty setting the stage for the rest of the growing season.
The Spring cleanup work can be extremely heavy or light depending on the winter we have had and the amount of fall cleanup that was done. In younger years I would have been panicking to get it all done right away but now a days I feel that it is okay to spread it out over a week or 10 days.
Sitting down every now and then is a good way to take stock of what you have accomplished and it motivates you to continue on to finish your task. The only caveat is don’t sit down on the edge of the hammock because that just promotes a bad work ethic.
What A Difference A Year Makes
Today’s forecast 59 degrees sunny and dry on March 12th Last year we were in the 20’s with a fresh fallen 6″ of snow and gusty winds. I am kind of bias mind you but I much prefer this kind of late winters day.
While I make a big deal out of the First Day Of Spring as you can see the weather is not always nice but it is the psychological effect of thinking about days like today that makes me ever hopeful. As of now the actual First Day Of Spring they are predicting 42 for a high with rain and snow showers. I’ll take that!
