A Glimmer Of Spring!

Yesterday was a wonderful day at the urban garden. The temperature was in the upper sixties and it was very sunny. Days like these are as welcome as Indian Summer days are in late Autumn. They are special as the give you a glimmer of great weather in the midst of not so spectacular weather. It was certainly motivating.

With the great weather the rest of the ice piles have melted out and reveled the nasty mess on the lawns they made. We were able to get some work done with cleaning up winter debris which was a very good thing ,also we have started to cut back the Ornamental Grasses which really needs to be done before the new growth starts.

Monday I will be meeting with a Landscape Contractor to go over the plans for the doctors parking area which needs to be brought up to code to comply with the City Of Chicago Landscape Ordinance. We need to add some planting some trees and a couple hundred feet of wrought iron fence. This will bring us in compliance most of the work is cosmetic. Latter in the year we will be redoing a whole parking lot and that will be a major project even including an underground retention area.

This weekend will be mild and mostly rainy which will help wash away a lot of the winter residue but if it gets too wet make it hard to get the flower beds cleaned up the lawns raked. We can still work in the planting beds in the parking lots. mainly cleaning up the perennials adding fertilizer and pre-emergent herbicides to the beds and refreshing the mulch.

Any way you look at it Spring is rushing towards us and we are going to try our best to get in front of it or at least try to keep up.

Have A great weekend hope you can get out in your gardens and look around.
