Roof Top Garden Project

Well the plantings are finished on the rooftop garden. I chose to use perennials for the plantings . It will really not be as showy as I would want until next year once the plantings have filled in. It is really a big change from what I started from and although I do like it it sure would have been nice to put in a water feature and some rock work but it would not work well for those who would be the main users of this area.

It is a very large area also very empty. There were a couple of pots and these 4 concrete planters on the one end. I thought that we needed some trees so I brought in Japanese Maples which should do well in the pots.

Here is a shot of the four planters.

These were full of weeds and had not been utilized so I brought in some topiary junipers to give it a more formal feel and added hurcheva and coreopsis as ground covers under them.

Also It looks a lot fuller all the way around and will be really full next summer. It is a challenge as again I was limited to what materials I could use. But all in all I am very pleased with the results.

As time goes on I may be able to tweak and add a few more things colored gravel around the edges and I would love to stain the concrete patio but that is a whole different project.

For now it is time to turn my attention to the oxygen tank landscape as the plantings will be arriving at 6 AM today.

Have A Great Week!

  • Wonderful article.

This is kind of irrelevant, but what is your favorite soil conditioning fertilizer? I’ve tried Bio-Magic on my veggie garden, but I don’t like the results. Anyone have suggestions?

  • I personally use mushroom compost and composted garden waste.
