Only 32 days till Spring arrives yippee – i – o – ki -ay well I am imagining that is how all those folks living in the North East United States feel right about now. It has been an incredibly rough winter with record breaking snowfalls.
Even though there is only 32 days till Spring officially arrives that does not mean that you will actually be out planting your garden that day. In fact most of us living in the Midwest shoot for around Mother’s Day which is still about three months away.
Right now most of us are hoping That Peter Cottontail is not buried up to his neck in snow as he goes about making his rounds on Easter.
The 32 Days Till Spring
This is a time for hopefulness and planning for the arrival of good weather but not a time to be planning on ditching the snow shovels and snow throwers. For those of you who are starting plants indoors for the vegetable garden you should be gathering together your seeds and supplies, and planning your sowing dates. To help in your planning use our Garden Resource Page There you will find charts on first and last frost dates for major US Cities as well as charts of when to start flowers and vegetables indoors along with links to Cooperative Extension Services for every State.
Start Planning This Years Projects
This is a great time to start planning the projects you want to get done this year and even save some money by purchasing what you can at the pre season sales that the Big Home Centers have at this time a year. While 25 cents off on the price of a paver stone don’t seem like much but if the project calls for 4 hundred or 5 hundred pavers the money quickly adds up.
It really is great to have as much of your material and supplies well in advance of when the projects begins because you will save many trips to the store when you can be working on the project and it gives you ample time to make sure you did not forget anything.
Another reason to buy early is that the seed racks are full and when the weather starts to warm not only do they empty pretty quickly but the more unusual seeds are sold out and won’t be reordered until next year.
While looking outside may not convince you I can assure you that there is only 32 days till Spring arrives.
